An Ecology of Beasts

We are happy to announce that An Ecology of Beasts will be hosted at BASE Milano during this year’s Milan Design Week, taking place 20-26 April. The 2026 theme is Hello Darkness, and as BASE Milano celebrates its ten-year anniversary, it invites us to enter the shadow zones of the present and transform them into a fertile ground for imagination, resistance, and regeneration. You can find more information about the theme here. For this very special occasion, we want to complete the deck, covering the few cards missing.

We invite (again) friends, collaborators, and those meeting us for the first time to come together. It’s a moment to share a space, dive into conversations on digital cultures, nerd on technology-driven experiments or reflect on shifting practices, or more simply have a beer together. We meet in one place while carrying our own singular forms, an ecology of creative creatures shaped by different trajectories and stories. To celebrate the diversity of the community we move within, we invite you to take part in a collective experiment.

Deadline: March 15th

A beast for each creative mind. Draw a card from the bestiary deck to receive your creature, which you may reinterpret freely, using whatever style, medium or technology feels most natural to you. Your final work, which must take the form of a short video, will be shared during the gathering alongside those of other participants, contributing to an index of beasts. No worries, just have fun with it!

Participation Guidelines

The following points detail the rules of the collective experiment:

1. Registration

Pick a card and submit your email to receive your beast. This creature is your starting point, reinterpret it freely. You can use any tool of choice, AI, AR, 3D animations, Net Art, or other formats. The process is open and experimental by nature.

2. Technical Specifications

The final submission must be a video (.mp4 / 9:16 ratio) with a duration between a minimum of 15 seconds and to maximum of 5 minutes. And why not to somehow use this cute pink color (#F5A3C7)?

3. Required Submission Assets

The delivery package must contain four elements: the finalized .mp4 video file, a title, a concise short description detailing the concept, and some stills. All assets must be ready for collective presentation.

4. Delivery and Deadline

Send all materials via a reliable file transfer service (WeTransfer, Drive, or SwissTransfer) to this email: entries@commonindex.xyz . The deadline is March 15th.
